NEUES KABARETT
Homemade Musical Instruments & Found Object Workshop
For Children 8-15
Led by Composer/Musician Katie Down
What is a soundscape? Soundscapes are all around us if we just open our ears and pay attention. The world is our wonderful sonic oyster and the sounds in it are the beautiful pearls. This workshop is designed for young people with a curiosity about and interest in things that go bang, pop, whiz, swish, boing and more!
This workshop will explore how different household items can be used for sound making as well as creating instruments out of everyday objects such as "flowerpotophones," "dish marimbas," "water drums" and "lithophones." At the end of the workshop, children ages 8-15 will create group soundscapes using their voices, odd instruments and found objects and these will be recorded and burned on CDs for each participant.
